The Lads Club – Collyhurst & Moston

A cinema verite short video of the Collyhurst and Moston, established in Manchester in 1917, the club celebrates it’s 100th anniversary this year.

We follow the people inside, Getting to know them and the club’s values and feel.

The hand-held camera shadows two retired boxing coaches taking others, pupils on a journey they’re all too familiar with. At the same time they are running a successful and reputable boxing promotion company. Black Flash promotions.  A raw documentary shadowing two amature and professional boxing coaches passing on their experience the up & coming at the Collyhurst & moston Lads club.

Tommy’s an ex British super welterweight holder. Winner of 66 amateur fights and 34 professional, He now dedicates his afternoons to amateurs athletes from 16:30 until 19:30. Training them towards competition challenges taking place this evening.

Pat Barratt holds a 13yr long Professional welterweight title in boxing, a championship belt for Great Britain and now trains professional league boxers. He is the CEO of Black Flash promotions in partnership with British Boxing Channel, He puts the lads through their stride by setting up their fights from start to finish.

ANYCHANGE?

First time using a camera, with a crew. We journeyed the streets of Manchester meeting those who make the city centre their home. We got to speak with the homeless living day to day not knowing when or where income will be coming from.

CINEMA VERITE is the style of documentary I attempt to achieve. I want to tell the story of the people, by the people. Often people are happy to share their story, their struggles and their joy.
